Walker ★★★

Ed Harris is terrific in this sometimes quirky but otherwise muddled take on Col. William Walker, a deluded zealot who briefly took over Nicaragua in the 1850s. Director Alex Cox does a great job depicting all of the crazies in and around Walker's makeshift "liberating" army (including Walker himself), but the more sane characters are fairly indistinct, and Cox also has a poor handle on the story in general and continuity in the larger action-oriented segments.

While not close to Cox's great Repo Man, Walker was, thankfully, miles better than the last Cox movie I watched, Straight to Hell.
