Jon Favreau's Chef is the closest thing to food porn since Jiro Dreams Of Sushi, yet that's not what you leave the theater thinking about. The crux of Favreau's film is the father son dynamic, and despite being unnecessarily overtly displayed, it still managed to pack an emotional punch that never fell into the trappings of clichéd Hollywood cinema. The narrative is bland at times, but nothing a few food montages can't fix.
