embarrassingly horny, choosing to remain oblivious to the awkward dissonance brewing between function and form, designs that service outside desire rather than characterization, and usually trample over whatever consistency exists. but it's a mid 90s anime and commenting on a sort of visualization that is obviously in jest is pointless, etc, etc

perhaps a product of sleep deprivation, but i did find aspects successfully humorous, though it's more due to the shamelessly relentless assault of its own bold shamelessness than anything substantial

im partial to the attempt, externalizing peaceful desires and riddled anxieties into a literal, a wound that escapes its awkwardly bearded cage and refuses to be tamed. the execution is messy, borrowing loose ideas of caricatures and overextending its eager hand with hardly a pair to work with, but i feel that adds to the obvious nature of this dirty beast. folding isn't really an option, and the earnest all-in attempt creates a parallel sound garden i quite enjoy

the best "guy gets turned into a lobster if he can't find a partner" film i've seen... may even be the best "guy gets turned into an animal if he can't find a partner" film, but i'll have to think on it

finally, a purposeful rebirthing of a cinematic giant, thematically brimming with detailed introspection and societal condemnation, remembering the pulsating heart of the pained beast as much as the poetic destruction its lonesome wrath creates

a love letter to fans of godzilla or hideaki anno
for fans of both, it's a great time to be alive
