Brillante Mendoza's Tropa de Elite. Tense and well-directed, but I think it could have made more out of its setting (the slums of Manila). The film might have benefitted from a couple more action sequences.
Lars von Trier's metaphorical retelling of his life as an artist. This mad "depiction" of his struggles with depression, self-doubt and his own creative integrity as a filmmaker is just a piece of crazy insanity. Had some minor flaws with its pacing and the script (e.g. the dialogue between Jack and Verge), so only 4/5 stars.
Generally, I am not into superhero-movies. I tried, many times, but apart from The Incredibles (obviously the first one, not the dispensable second one) it has never been my cup of tea.
However, "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is different. The film is so refreshing, funny, visually mesmerizing and smart. It caught me instantly. This film more than lives up to its hype.
