Totally different dynamic from the first, mostly because it’s clear the first was never supposed to have a sequel at all! The traps here hew closer to the Cube mold (mostly by virtue of the larger ensemble, but also by branching out to multiple rooms), Tobin Bell gets to do some actual acting as Jigsaw (and, I might add, it’s a damn good performance), and most importantly, the ridiculous brain genious twists I signed up for have started to rear their incredibly stupid head. If all of the Saw movies are edited like this it’s clearly the second best franchise of all time (after Crank, natch).
