Like watching Edgar Allen Poe's dying dream, plot and rationality largely take a backseat to atmosphere and morbid psychosexual symbolism in The Iron Rose. A haunting, tragic and incredibly creepy film, the simple premise of two lovers trapped in a seemingly endless graveyard until they're driven mad is aided by excellent cinematography, an eerie score and some surprisingly good acting for a low budget film by a director whose oeuvre is often dismissed as cheap schlock. A great and original work of unconventional horror.
