Isabelle’s review published on Letterboxd:
maybe i just need to watch this again? for most of the film this felt like it was missing that Hosoda human touch. drama was happening, but it never felt truly empathetic in a way that digs at me. then the end happens, and it has me reconsidering the whole movie. not in that it makes me view the film in a completely different light. just that i feel after watching the ending, i would connect to where it's going more and not just be in the mindset of watching bogstandard digital empathy commentary with a rushed, tacky Beauty and the Beast framing device. maybe i'll watch it again. but for the most part, i was just so damn bored.
(and how does it look that substantially worse than Summer Wars?)
