i'm so mad at 14-year-old me for letting the Nostalgia Critic keep me from actually watching this movie for like a decade. this is just dope. i love that even after the 90's ended, Baz Luhrmann not only still had that low-angled, fish-eyed zooms, but somehow amped them up WAY more. the color palette for this movie is straight-up ugly, but somehow in its own gaudy way it just works. the performers are giving this ALL they have, the script is just reveling in its corniness, everyone both on and off camera feel like they're having the time of their life! i think that moment at the end [to keep it spoiler-free, the one with the person walking really fast toward the stage] is honestly one of my favorite movie moments ever. i'm officially a Baz Luhrmann fan.
