Lee McCoy’s review published on Letterboxd:
Venom was pretty much what I expected it to be based on the trailers. The one nice surprise was the banter between Brock and our title character. Venom (the character) is actually great vocally in this, and has some genuinely funny moments. Hardy does a decent job as well, with a few slip ups here and there.
BUT...my big issue is (you guessed it) the villain. Riot is a run of the mill, generic opponent that puts up a decent fight at the end, but watch two symbiotes gel into each other isn't as exciting as one might think. And the human counterpart Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed, who is usually phenomal...but it's comic book film) doesn't really do the character any favors either.
