Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ★★★★

Shang-Chi is pretty good. Straight away, the action in this movie is amazing. It's the best action the MCU has had so far BY A MILE. Visually, the film looks stunning, it's so full of life especially during the day scenes that you kind of forget it's a marvel movie at points, which is great! The heart and soul of the film is, well, Shang-Chi, specifically the relationship between him and his father. It holds so much weight that I honestly wish that it was the focus up until the climax. I say that because about two thirds through we get a huge exposition dump about a new villain and it kinda comes out of nowhere, think Surtur from ragnarok, even though the fight scene that involved said villain was incredible. However, the side characters did almost nothing for me. Shangs sister was solid enough I suppose, although I wish she got some more development, and in order to do that, I think you'd have to remove Katie from the film entirely, because she adds almost nothing besides filling the role of mandatory plucky MCU side character. Honestly half her lines are just cringy. There's some nice cameos from Wong, Abomination and Trevor Slattery which were all cool! honestly, put ALL the focus on the family dynamic and you have yourself a contender for the best MCU project.
