The Conversation ★★★★½

This was a wonderfully surreal take on what I tend to think of as the “hard spy film” genre (less pulpy than Bond, less gritty than Dirty Harry, etc.). From its commanding sound production to its disjointed narrative and a top form acting performance by Hackman, this one is both of its time and a bit predictive of some aesthetic cinematic trends that have come back en vogue in more recent years.  One of Coppola’s finest films.
