Carrey and McGregor are really great in this, totally committed to their performances and have a dynamic connection.
However, for a movie that comes from one POV either the direction or the script lacks that cohesive piece that explains why Carrey’s character is the way he is—it hints at it in bits but doesn’t connect overall.
