Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island ★★★★

"My father used to say never judge a man by where he drinks, only how he holds it" - Bill Randa

I'm not a huge King Kong fan but after seeing the amazing job that Legendary Pictures did on two Godzilla films it only makes sense that I give this one a go. Especially with the upcoming Godzilla VS Kong.

With the end of the Vietnam War, Bill Randa sees his last chance to get government funding to explore Skull Island. Skull Island is an island that has been a mystery to mankind for all time. It's surrounded by a perpetual storm and the only men who have been near it were in planes that crashed or boats that sank. Bill used his gift of gab to secure the funding, a team, and military personal to make the expedition. When they make it to there they drop small bombs to create seismic maps and this grabs the attention of Kong. After their encounter they realize there are things underground much worse than the giant ape and he may be the only one protecting mankind from them.

This Legendary Monsterverse has so much potential, especially with Monarch as an organization tying everything together. I fucking love John C. Reilly, John Goodman and Shea Whigham and they're just a small part of an excellent cast including quite a few that are prominent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The CGI FX are top notch and the great 1970s soundtrack is on par with Guardians of the Galaxy. Legendary has made me a Kong fan and I want more.

Before this film I knew for sure that I wanted Godzilla to destroy Kong, but now I'm almost on the fence. I AM SO FUCKING HYPED FOR GODZILLA VS KONG!!!!
