Darragh Walsh’s review published on Letterboxd:
Unlike the object at the centre of this story, the film lacks a distinct sharp edge.
The reason the original was so effective in my opinion is that it had no interest in appealing to a mass audience. It was built purely for horror heads and never held back its brutal intensity.
Unfortunately the production companies involved here - Spyglass and Phantom Four together with the distributor (Disney - major red flag) were clearly unwilling to back something truly disturbing and horrifying. What we are left with is the bones of something interesting without any of the classic Hellraiser flesh attached.
