Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island ★★★½

"I suppose no man comes home from war. Not really."

Prehistoric creatures and creepy crawlers versus Nam-era soldiers. That's the premise and what you're paying for here. That being said, the creature effects are top-notch. there are segments in this film that are nightmare-inducing thanks to the brilliant work of the film's effects house.

The soundtrack was irritatingly familiar and a bit too on the nose. At times I thought I was watching 'Forrest Gump', but then King Kong would show up and I would be like "Oh yeah, that's right.Tom Hanks isn't in this one".

The cast of soldiers/invaders are okay. No real performances here to write home about. The characters are pretty bland. But are the characters really the point here? I don't think it's the humans that you show up for in a movie like this. It's clearly the monsters. And the monsters here shine on like crazy diamonds.
