    Spider-Man: No Way Home

    ★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

No Way Home is a package of Spider-Man’s greatest hits, delivering fan service after fan service for any Spidey fan through sheer comic book nonsense by the Marvel/Disney money making machine, while the film is trying to find an emotional beating heart within its chaotic semblance of a story. And you know what? It isn’t terrible.

That inner geek in me who loves Spider-Man as a character enjoyed every second with all three live action Spider-Men bickering, and sharing experiences,…

    Melancholia

    ★★★★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Besides Synecdoche, New York, No film has given me more existential anxiety and dread than Melancholia. No film has captured my own existential crisis like Melancholia has. No film has given me such depressing thoughts about life and death like melancholia has. No film has depicted depression with such emotional resonance, where I can relate it to my own experiences, like melancholia has.

Melancholia is about depression (Justine), existential anxiety (Claire), and the meaninglessness of existence (earth being destroyed by…

    Drive My Car

    ★★★

Drive My Car is a slow burning cathartic trip about trying to escape from loss, and letting go of the past, as well as art imitating life, and vice versa. The interestingly designed narrative structure, the careful build up, and the unpredictability of where the story will go makes for some genuine natural development, as the story is allowed breathing room with its characters, and this gives the audience a level of engagement with where this story will head.

    However,…

  • The Unholy

    The Unholy

The Unholy is god awful. It is terrible to look at; the washed out look of the film, the fact that it looks like it’s shot on an IPhone sometimes, and the poor framing, as well as the terribly CG’d ghost eliciting such unintentional comedy. It is also terrible to follow, with its easy predictability, treading along to one annoying cliche after the other, and becoming too far fetched in the third act.

There could’ve been something interesting within this story, somewhere, but it’s so hard to see when it is buried by a tonne of shit.

    Tenet

    ★★

I found out, While I was watching tenet, there was a COVID-19 outbreak happening outside. I thought I was in a horror movie.. I was scared that I would be stuck inside the cinema watching tenet all day.😭

But in all seriousness, even when the above story is serious, Tenet gave me a headache.

Tenet is a culmination of every film from Nolan.. for fans of Christopher Nolan, that might be a treat. For me, who is not really a…

    I'm Thinking of Ending Things

    ★★★★

    Well.. Fuck.

Charlie Kaufman always knows how to give me existential anxiety with his exploration of the human condition. Which is why he is one of my favourite filmmakers.

‘I’m thinking of ending things’ is a surreal psychological drama with so much thematic layering about life, death, ageing, regret, Memories, the connections we make in life, how we perceive art through experiences, and what will come to be being in a relationship. It’s dense. It’s sincere. It’s bleak. It’s funny. It’s tense.…
