This was a solid film. It had some amazing scenes throughout the film and it felt like it tried to be more plot-heavy than some of Tarkovsky’s other films. The movie certainly did have some outstanding scenes such as that swamp scene and the final 30 minutes especially, but it felt like the scenes weren’t connected enough in the first hour to warrant the style it felt like Tarkovsky was going for. For example, that one scene with Masha was a brilliant scene but what real purpose did it serve in the film? It just felt like things like these happened a bit too often to warrant a higher score.
