• A Scene at the Sea

    A Scene at the Sea

perfect ambient movie... audio heavily relies on a mix of ocean waves and joe's compositions, and visuals are just great and make me want to live in a seaside town.

think my favorite scene is when shigeru and takako can't take the bus together because it's rush hour and his surfboard can't fit. she ends up taking it alone and standing the whole way even when it gradually empties leaving only her and a sitting grandma. she finally reaches her…

  • The Bad Mother's Handbook

    The Bad Mother's Handbook

rob's outfits in this are unironically amazing... absolutely love when he shows up for grandma tea and record time with a jar of strawberry jam, decked out in a sweater vest and velvet blazer in two clashing tones of reds. even more so when he's standing in a living room with almost all red decor - call that mise-en-sceneeeee

  • Boiling Point

    Boiling Point

quintessential deadpan cruelty. there are hard to watch moments, but this might just be one of my top genres. there's so much to unpack in this movie... i might rewatch immediately once i get through all of kitano's work. it's been so long since a film has actually surprised me, and the ending kinda got to me idk why i'm this affected by it.

ummm just things off the top of my head that i loved so much
    yakuza just…

  • Violent Cop

    Violent Cop

takeshi kitano strolling around and kicking shins in, rewatch value very high

with that said, this is a very good cop investigation flick and i hate the summary because it only reflects the last 15-20 minutes. the movie is so much more and it's surprising and searing. red on beige is not a common color combination, but it perfectly sums up slice of life with a generous handful of brutality.

  • August in the Water

    August in the Water

strong desire to project this movie in a room and just live in it - no other words to articulate the experience

  • Revolver

    Revolver

absolutely chaotic, but surprisingly not bad. the concept is there, and it's got the style to pull it off to some degree. i'd like a sorter clip compilation now.
