I understand why everyone loves this show. It’s definitely ambitious, and Anno essentially using hormonal teenagers undergoing puberty to deal with existentialism and depression is pretty cool- in theory. There’s a sincere heart at the center of this story, one that’s ultimately meant to declare that we- the audience- must make the choice to live better, fulfilling lives. We must keep trying despite the pain.
