There Will Be Blood 2007
Undeniably timeless. The genesis of accelerated modern American capitalism; corrupted souls baptized in black gold, bubbling and bursting out from under the vast open fields of the west, a system that rewards ruthlessness and greed personified by DDL’s Daniel Plainview. Mysterious Skin 2004
Deals with the touchiest of subjects—repressed trauma and child sexual abuse—in a way that’s both unflinchingly, blood-curdlingly honest and compassionate/delicate which is a difficult balancing act to pull off, possessing a level of emotional complexity you kinda need to make this work the way it does, otherwise it’d just be exhausting misery porn. tbh the moment I heard those ethereal Robin Guthrie guitars in the soundtrack was a big yesss moment that sealed the deal.
Also, I need everyone to know how fucking phenomenal Joseph Gordon Levitt is in this, holy shit.

Good Vibes at the Iowa State Fair 2020
Virgil pensively hitting his juul as Epstein’s suicide is discussed. Andrew Yang eating a turkey leg. Tulsi being asked about American imperialism. A pig named Border Wall. Nothing but good vibes at the state fair baby
An ominously scored, grotesque slice of sweaty heartland Americana capturing the absurdity of having this kind of horseshit political theater in the middle of a mess of pyramid schemes, nauseating food, and dead industry. About as astute, angry, and funny as anything on the…
