I am speechless. what a clever series of misdirection, miscommunication, misunderstanding, and mistake. when the camera pans out after he uttered "forget it, Jake. it's Chinatown” I shed tears without knowing the real reason why and I love shedding tears without knowing why; it only means something inside me has snapped (hello it's me a sensitive person). a brilliant, beautifully despairing film. sometimes you gave it your all (just intrigue and curiosity at first til you become dangerously invested) and…

An epic mystery movie with beautiful writing, wonderful sets, amazing costume design, incredible cinematography, and a breathtakingly brilliant ending that will haunt your memories. One of the greatest endings in cinema history in one of the best movies of all time. Roman Polanski directs the hell out of this movie allowing it to be suspenseful, exciting, entertaining, interesting and brilliant all at the same time. With Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunway deliver great and memorable performances to make up a perfect movie with a mind blowing twist at the end.

EDIT: WHY DOES THIS HAVE SO MANY LIKES WTF

A glorious, dazzling film. A love letter to Noir as Sergio Leone's famous (and best) film Once Upon a Time in the West was for the Western genre.

Perhaps the best script ever written (biased of course) with perhaps the greatest (or one of them) actors to ever grace the art of filmmaking. Roman Polanski's Magnum Opus and Jack Nicholson's best performance he's ever done, perhaps his best, as he plays…

Roman Polanski's Chinatown is a classic noir that's as technically sound as they come. With Robert Towne's airtight screenplay, Polanski's steady hand and excellent performances by Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway it's a damn good film. I didn't quite love it, but it's quality work nonetheless.

Private detective J.J. Gittes (Jack Nicholson) is hired to expose an adulterer, but instead finds himself caught in a web of deceit, corruption, and murder. Faye Dunaway also stars as Evelyn Mulwray the wife…

It's a rare feat for a mystery/detective sort of film to keep me in suspense and in a state of constant speculation into the underlying mystery playing out...but Chinatown did just that.

This is one of my 'Damnit Shawn...you gotta watch more of these classics' selections. One of those films I'm ashamed to have not seen yet after putting off for years and years. Very glad to finally experience it now though. Jack Nicholson is great as a quick witted…
