Can’t believe I slept on this film for so long!
Gorō Miyazaki proves himself his father’s son in this beautiful 2011 film from Studio Ghibli.
Combining the most enjoyable parts of anime slice-of-life storytelling and a Western three-act plot with multiple satisfying twists, this story is well worth sitting down for.
Equally rewarding are the realism, historical setting that is unashamedly Japanese, and perfectly matching themes between the plot and subplot — appreciation for our context, and for tradition. …
