    I am a Charlottesville resident and I saw this latest installment of Spike Lee Joints on August 12, 2018, after a morning of watching an army of police (and literally the Army National Guard) force citizens of the city into tight corners and confrontations as they were trying to grieve and come together as a community.     As a successful cinematic experiment, Boyhood triumphs.

    This is a chronological study of the moments between milestones in life as we race toward the voluptuous panic of early adulthood. "Voluptuous panic" is how one of the film's momentary characters describes the simultaneous joy and fear that envelops us after graduating high school. Though it's uttered in passing and is only subtly acknowledged by the film's protagonist, I found this striking turn of phrase so completely apt.
