Elliott’s review published on Letterboxd:
Simple, yet so, so effective.
Taking me some time to process it all, even longer to apply a permanent star rating (expect a possible raise to a 4.5/5 over time). I had high hopes, of course, but I never could have expected something so intangibly moving. “Poetic” and “painterly” are words used far too often in film criticism but I can’t think of two adjectives more apt for this cerebral, experiential work.
Definitely interested in more of Sokurov’s oeuvre now. Russian Ark next, maybe?
