Questioning the necessity of this based-on-a-real-disaster movie being made aside, it’s actually surprisingly good. Some clichés can’t be avoided (l’m looking at you, exploding bottle of coke), but once shit hits the fan it’s wild. The editing is quite impressive and how the characters manage to stay at the centre of the plot even as everything revolves around this massive disaster is what makes you stay on the edge of your seat. The tension stays high until the final frame of the rig, and hooo boy the production value of that fire? I’m shook. Gina Rodriguez queen of panicking, Kate Hudson queen of only ever playing the cool and hot wife who worries.
