4k restoration undertaken by the Criterion Collection and David Lynch, screened at the North Park Theatre in Buffalo, NY. My appreciation for the sound design and mixing is newfound.
Assembly cut. Compelling ideas and drama, but a bit too long. I'm not so bothered by the nihilistic opening -- this is, after all, horror, and Ripley losing her reason to keep on living makes a compelling contrast to the rapists and murderers who have devoted their lives to God and the possibility of salvation. The latter half of the film bogs the rest down unfortunately.
