Borat Subsequent Moviefilm

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm ★★★

Baron Cohen has a talent of making people say and do the funniest and most horrible things on camera. This mocumentary follows in the footsteps of the first Borat film. Unfortunately it has been such a long time since I saw the first film that I can't compare them as efficiently as I would like to.

The film made me laugh a lot but more than that it made me cringe like very few films do. I don't remember that feeling from the first Borat. However, I had the feeling that there was also more of an effort to also show some positive sides of the Americans (the babysitter, the old Jewish ladies...) to even out the cringiness.

There's a lot of social commentary but somewhat arbitrarily thrown around. I think the driving force for the film was the political atmosphere at the time of filming, and I think that would have sufficed as the subject of satire. Now I had the feeling that there was untargeted anger towards the whole American culture and people.

Maria Bakalova was great, I hope she does more comedy.
