ok, it’s subjective and maybe I have a soft spot for 1950s films, but directly following dial m for murder with this made a perfect murder just awful. the setting was so expanded and yet I was less interested in what was happening. the film started out with a sex scene where dial m has light kissing and twin beds, and still showed no chemistry. the score felt obnoxious and overblown at key moments. been watching effects-heavy blockbusters and highly edited artsy films lately and hadn’t realized I was desperately craving something like this until ray milland was pacing a small room and captivating me with every second. felt like a play on screen in an excellent way. the suspense! honestly, I loved it!
