it’s hard not to be contrarian when it seems like every single person who’s seen this is falling to their knees with praise. my film pet peeve is when themes are screamed at audiences instead of shown and i was really disappointed to feel that at times. everything everywhere all at once is imperfect, overlong and often times childish but it’s also a movie that’s extremely kind. every time there was a serious scene and the camera panned to Pattinson with his little bat ears and cape i thought i was gonna lose my mind. its noir style along with Giacchino’s talents provided some beautiful shots but the dramatics in dialogue and with the detective plot felt so cheesy and poorly written. more than anything the political theme made me roll my eyes, it’s message basically being summed up as “hey cops are good actually! politics aren’t corrupt, criminals are! make change within the system!” not a big fan of this one.
