    Cha Cha Real Smooth

“unconvincing” is the word that comes to mind. i don't buy anything about andrew (are we left to infer that he's so great at party-starting because of his younger brother? because he isn't as mature as he wants to be? because he's just such a great, talented guy?) or domino (because of both the drowsiness of johnson's performance and her written-by-a-man coolness: her "messiness" is never dangerous or sad, just sexual and comforting), especially because the actors' casting muffles the…

    West Side Story

west side story has so much that makes it worthy of being remade – a remarkable ensemble (#that man manages to be…unremarkably fine?, even if everyone else outperforms him), an impressive balance of stomach-churning realism and breathtaking musical spectacle, and really apparent love for the story coming from behind the camera. i will be thinking about this version of "somewhere" for a long time.

also, i hope they keep this poster up. bernardo & anita supremacy! (the shot of them kissing through the fabric made me want to pass away)
