Russell Crowe being a dick to his children/grandchildren for 2 hours
This was a hard-hitting testimony to the real work of journalists, and the corruption of religion and state. I found this difficult to watch in places, not because it was graphic, or violent, but because it was true. Spotlight doesn't get bogged down in heroism or elevating characters into something they aren't. It just focuses on the truth. Everyone plays their part perfectly, but nobody steals the show, because they aren't supposed to. Tom McCarthy's focus is the story, nothing…
Imagine being hungry, and heading to the fridge. You open the fridge, knowing there's nothing worthwhile in there; some butter, week-old milk, a single potato, and some jam. But then, illuminated in a heavenly glow by the 30watt bulb in your fridge, there it is, exactly what you didn't expect, some leftover Chinese food from last night. You completely forgot it was there, hidden amongst the out-of-date, the mouldy, and the tasteless.
Logan Lucky is that chow mein you so desperately needed.
