Beyond the Horizon

Beyond the Horizon ★★★½

A small rural town during a summer in the seventies is the setting for this coming of age in which, after the revelation of a secret, a family of farmers, already going through difficult times due to an unusual heat wave, begins to disintegrate. Le Milieu de l'horizon is the intimate portrait of a family, of imperfect beings, their decisions, feelings, and the ties that bind them together; it is also, to some extent, a small tribute to motherhood. Delphine Lehericey's film follows the established and proven formulas of the initiatory journeys that mark the end of childhood, it is a simple and sober story but also sensitive, subtle and with many beautiful images. This is one of those stories that show how much our experiences and all that we discover during adolescence influence the shaping of our personality.
