Boarding Gate ★★½

A woman finds herself caught up in a complex maelstrom of corporate greed, deception, money and drugs as she seeks an opportunity to finally rebuild her life. Boarding Gate walks the line between thriller and film noir, combines psychological and erotic elements, and ultimately delivers rather dissonant results. The first hour is terribly boring and convulsive, with uninteresting miserable characters, and a combination of sex and violence that is astounding in its coldness and ineffectiveness. When the story moves to Hong Kong it gets much better but, at least for me, it was already too late to save this unnecessarily intricate, sleazy B movie. An absolute disappointment from Olivier Assayas.
