Godzilla: King of the Monsters ★½

The big problem with Godzilla: King of the Monsters is that it is only moderately entertaining. It is a film that obviously is not meant to be taken very seriously and even embraces the silliness of its premise. It is possible to disregard the absurd story, the incoherent script, the forced family drama, the bad jokes or the clichés of catastrophe cinema. What I do find unforgivable in a film that, in theory, does not pretend to be more than pure entertainment is the inconsistent pace, the terrible handling of the camera, the irregularity in the special effects, and action that fails to excite. It's a shame that such an emblematic character as Godzilla, the most iconic kaiju, is the object of such an overwhelmingly chaotic work.
