Long Live the Emperor

Long Live the Emperor ★★½

A soldier prepares to join Napoleon's troops before an important battle in this short film that takes historical events into the present. I suppose that the intention of such anachronism is to create a counterpart, perhaps even a critique, of events in the contemporary world such as the declining powers, patriotism and militarization. On the other hand, we come across the story of a couple and witness their complicity, their fears, and how they face the possible departure of the man to un uncertain fate. It is a competent work with an excellent use of music but quite frankly, it left me indifferent.
