Enfant du Siècle’s review published on Letterboxd:
In Saigon in the 1950s, the story of Mùi, a little girl who comes to a house to work as a maid, begins. Through her innocent gaze we will get to know a little of the people around her and the nostalgia that has marked them, we will follow her through her daily duties, enjoy the small pleasures of a peaceful life and, unexpectedly, we will discover love with her. L'Odeur de la papaye verte is a sensory experience that demands the audience to get intoxicated by its textures and aromas while guiding them with elegant poetry through the fine tapestry of life. It is a small tribute to family and vietnamese woman as a fundamental part of that core which, like fresh seed taken from a fruit, grows pure and shines with great splendor. Trần Anh Hùng created a delicate story about a world that is unknown to many of us, it is the contemplation of an existence that develops with serenity, it is a poem that evokes happiness.
