ROGER DEAKINS BEATING MY STUPID DUMB ASS TO A FUCKING PULP FOR THREE UNINTERRUPTED HOURS 2049 (2017) DIR. DENIS VILLENEUVE
okay jokes aside, here's what i gotta say: it's time to retire Zimmer music. its boring. its done to death. i dont have a single melody stuck in my head after this film (unlike Arrival, in which Johann's compositions stuck instantly, and he should've composed for this as well), and that lack of catch is the common thread of every one of zimmer's cheap lazy overproduced scores. he's a master of delivering music that FITS the movie but never ever makes it BETTER. if it werent for Ben Wallfisch (thank god he got first credit) i'm thoroughly convinced this film would have been 3 hours of breathtaking filmmaking set to synth swells, bass drops, and his signature BWAAAAAAs. its over, we need new composers and new creative minds working on film scores because zimmer's Remote Control Productions has a fucking monopoly on it, every director wants that sound so they pick and choose from his pool of peers instead of finding composers that will actually enhance their film.
short version: zimmer is the musical equivalent of the yearly disaster movie with >20% on Rotten Tomatoes and the day i stop seeing his name in the credits is the day i can finally get a good night's sleep.
