One of my most fun film-watching experiences this year. K was sitting next to me on the couch hand-sewing a coat for her father, and initially didn't want to get sucked in and asked me to watch this with headphones, but eventually she capitulated and we had a great time watching it together. Funny, and adorable, and fascinating from a cultural and historical point of view, but also super poignant, both thematically *and* when you consider that these children (both the characters and the actors) would have grown up to fight in World War II.
- "Upset tummy - do not feed".
- That weird resurrection ritual--very SHADOW OF MORDOR.
- The kids seeing their dad on film.
- That whole scene in their home after film.
