Andrew Todd’s review published on Letterboxd :
Not just a great dance movie, but a straight-up great drama, tinged with desperation and dealing with issues such as poverty, race, rape, abortion, drugs, religion - the works. It helped to popularise disco but in the actual movie it's presented as a hollow pursuit - something its characters try to use as a salve for their broken lives. It's quite something.
One of the most misunderstood and unfairly maligned films in the genre.
