If you're gonna make a three hour movie, I'm gonna want to know why I'm watching by the 1:30 mark. Once Pitt gets to the cult compound, I did really enjoy the thriller aspects of the Mason storyline. There are also some really solid laughs and DiCaprio & Pitt give really fun performances. However, those positives get bogged down by the bizarre pacing (especially in the first half) and aimless story. Margot Robbie's whole story line is that she goes to watch one of her own movies? That's it? The "twist" ending also didn't really work for me either. I get what it's trying to say about the myth of Hollywood, but it comes out of nowhere. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has flashes of brilliance and interesting ideas somewhere in it, but Tarantino's ego gets in the way. The biggest takeaway for me is that Sally Menke is a genius.
