i think this is the coolest ryan gosling has ever been walking down a dark street with an oversized coat and blade runner music playing the the background.
really this is like one of the coolest movies ever.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I recently watched Kathryn Bigelow's Detriot: watching La Haine is like watching Detriot again. And as usual, second drafts are always better than the first.
La Haine is heart-achingly unfair. It is needlessly beautiful, drawing us into the lives of three characters who only can ever have unfortunate ends. It's almost cruel that the frame itself tells us to care about people who will only ever be brutalized by the Kafkaesque iron fist of systematic violence.
The masterful Wellesian framing…
Did I watch the entire 8 hours? No. Of course not. Warhol probably didn't even watch the whole thing himself.
But to be fair my DVD copy was only 1 hour in length.
So what's the verdict?
Well uh, the more I looked at the Empire State Building the more I discovered that it didn't look like the Empire State Building at all but like a guy wearing glasses with a thick mustache and a dunce cap on. I mean what else do you want me to say about the film? There was this part where the screen sort of bubbled. I guess that was cool.
