    Gemini Man

    ★★½

Saw it in IMAX 3D HFR.

The story is simplistic to a fault and not note worthy - though with some nice moments.

Will Smith still carries the film - although stoic Smith isn't my preferred Smith.

I couldn't get passed the 3D coupled with the high frame rate weirdness. It all looks hyper sharp and smooth and totally not cinematic. The action at times looks weak and cheap - like fist fights and explosions. However, the bike chase sequence…

    Joker

    ★★½

This turned out to be two acts of someone in misery that clearly needs help and then the final act of hate filled self-pity violence.

I really didn't get the point of this film. is it about financial class disparity? Or mental health? The film doesn't seem to have a point of view. It's a Joker origin story - but this Joker doesn't resemble any of the previous Joker incarnations. This Joker is not smart enough to ever take on…

    Ad Astra

    ★★★★

It's Apocalypse Now meets 2001: A Space Odyssey. The older two films are better made but this one effected me emotionally.

It's slow moving at times, with some visually stunning thrills sprinkled in - it's never boring. But it does feel like two movies colliding - an action film and a internal thoughtful journey of son seeking answers about his father. For instance there are elements of world building that are purely used for action purposes and then left behind.…

    ★★★

    Lite and charming.

Danny Boyle’s direction elevates the film and kept me engaged.

It’s surprisingly funny and the lead Himesh Patel does a good job of carrying the film. His reaction to the craziness around him in likable and understated. His renditions of the songs are solid - guy can sing.

Going in I didn’t find the premise particularly interesting. But the execution was well done.

Fun home watch. But if you love the music and want to go out to the movies - you won’t be disappointed.
