Eric Heiman’s review published on Letterboxd:
Oscar Isaac delivers such a mesmerizing performance that the other actors don’t even register. Schrader tries to keep up, too, but the story doesn’t quite deliver on the devastation Isaac‘s stoic intensity seems to imply is coming. Still, The Card Counter leaves a haunting residue, even if it isn’t quite the wallop Schrader and Ethan Hawke gave us in First Reformed.
