May in the Summer ★★★½

Returning home to Jordan, May is fresh off a successful book tour and is planning her interfaith wedding. Or rather, that's what she's letting everyone believe, including herself. She slips back into the familiar family squabbles with her sisters and her divorced parents, but eventually she's just going to have to face the truth. Cherien Dabis wrote, directed, and stars in this delightful and funny drama that also features Hiam Abbass, Bill Pullman, and Alexander Siddig. I was completely charmed by this film and especially appreciated how she nonchalantly included a queer character.
