Joe Carnahan finally delivers on the promise of Narc, making one of the best ever "guy" movies in the process. It's a lush survival thriller that functions as both riveting action film and a cool meditation on humanity and spiritualism. And it does so without ever becoming pretentious. Although I can see how this movie may not connect with some people (it's easy to interpret its stark truthfulness as pessimism - or worse - defeatism) it definitely connected with me. It exists in an interesting crossroads between Ernest Hemingway and Cormac McCarthy. It has great sequences of nail-biting suspense, breathtaking scenery, scary monsters, the works... And Liam Neeson gives arguably the best performance of his career. It's definitely an excellent film. And I think repeated viewings may reveal it as a masterpiece.
