so, this is what it feels like
current favourites: faves of 2020 ✨
idk if it's because i watched this on my laptop instead of in theatres or what, but i was pretty underwhelmed, i feel like there were sequences that were meant to be super tense and frightening/unsettling yet they didn't manage to really grip me. i kept waiting for something to happen that got me SHOOK but like... it never did?? am also confused about the themes, and the characters felt kinda half-baked (especially the cinematographer dude??), though keke palmer (goddess!) and daniel kaluuya were fantastic
was very confused about what this was trying to say and thought at first that i was too dumb to understand… but after reading other reviews on here i realised that it isn’t just a me problem lol. one review i came across describes the film’s message(s) as “low-hanging fruit”, and i think that sums it up pretty well. 3.5 stars though for elisabeth moss and also the vibes. and because claes bang has such a wonderful face, my goodness
Absolutely stunning, beautiful, every member of the cast is spectacular (and gorgeous? everyone is so ridiculously good looking?? JACK LOWDEN jesus, and james norton is So Intense, Lily James is an angel sent from heaven. PAUL DANO, give this man an award), the costume and set design are wondrous - and the STORY, my god, one day soon I will settle down to read Tolstoy's War and Peace!!
edit: the score, it is also spectacular!!
