• The God Committee

    The God Committee

    ★★½

Stiles, Domingo and Gatofalo are all great, but ultimately the flash-forward timeline just didn't work.

This should have focused on the first timeline and really fleshed it out more. Still, a thought-provoking ethics drama.

I liked it and I come online and I learn that I am alone. It's Being the Ricardos all over again.

  • The Last Picture Show

    The Last Picture Show

    ★★★★★

Clearly the forebearer of so many movies and shows that I love. I can’t believe this was made in 1971 and it still feels so relevant and alive.

    Movies forever.

  • Swan Song

    Swan Song

    ★★½

Has that overly lit “This Is Us” meets an iPhone commercial glassy aesthetic that almost falls into the uncanny valley to my eye. Which… could work for a sci fi drama (as it did in “Devs”) but doesn’t here because it seems to be used without a wink.

Moments of it were good, and Ali/Harris are a force, but it’s too thin, too stretched beyond its premise to really pull me in. "Ex Machina" had more punch and pizazz. “Black Mirror” has the smarter runtime sense. Something about this whole thing was off.

Isaacs is remarkable in this. His “you don’t know, I know” speech tore me to pieces.

Painful, grueling, and absolutely the kind of reckoning I unfortunately think should be more common in modern art, given the state of our world.

    I'm a mark.

  • The Matrix Revolutions

    The Matrix Revolutions

    ★★½

For large swaths of its runtime, this feels like a generic blockbuster and not a Matrix movie. Very, very underwhelming “finale,” and real proof that bigger is often not more satisfying

  • The Matrix Reloaded

    Hilariously underrated.

  • Spider-Man: No Way Home

    Spider-Man: No Way Home

    ★★★★

It’s not my favorite thing about myself but I love anything Spider-Man. This movie is deeply flawed. The action is often bland and the direction feels lifeless. The Dr. Strange portals are so lame to me.

But SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER and SPOILER SPOILER when the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER really worked for me and I couldn’t stop my little Peter Parker-loving self from loving it anyway.
