it just doesn’t get better than this. i cry at the battle of the bands performance every time (also this was my first time watching this since kevin clark died, and he just absolutely shines in every scene he’s in. what a loss)

this deserves a place in the great british film hall of fame. all these fabulous actors knowing each other and being friends in real life translates so well to the screen and you truly believe that these people are all old friends - probably because they are! also it’s a known fact that having the queen herself emma thompson in a film can only ever make it better

(however both this poster and the header photo need changing DESPERATELY)

    Running with Scissors

the whole way through i was like "lmao augusten. how did they come up with that name? surely nobody in human history has ever been called augusten" and then the film end card said BASED ON THE PERSONAL MEMOIRS OF AUGUSTEN BURROUGHS

rated this 4.5 on instinct but then the more i think about it and realise little details i didn’t catch while watching it the more i’m like… no this is actually genius in every way. 5 stars

    Some Kind of Wonderful

i felt like this needed a longer intro to really get us familiar with keith and watts’ relationship before it threw us into his fascination with amanda as everything feels a little bit too surface level as it is. this is a rare occasion where i actually feel like a remake could (maybe) improve upon the story?? maybe? also - slight tangent - my mum loves david bowie very much and also loves eric stoltz and as soon as his character came on screen i realised that eric stoltz in this movie looks very much like david bowie

the first half of this was like a DREAM to me. i know it won't be everyone's thing but it is definitely mine and i was LOVING it - there's something about films where everybody acts just a little weirder than they do in reality that really appeals to me, and in this it's paired with such an over the top and lively score that makes everything seem almost like a cartoon but it's also acted impeccably oh it was…
