The ghost shit in this character driven drama is more unsettling than most horror movies

  • Bringing Up Baby

    Bringing Up Baby

One of the most bonkers romcoms I've ever seen and some surprisingly modern comedy at times considering when it was made

    The Art of Self-Defense

Absolutely wild movie. Enjoyed it a lot more the second time around now that I was on its wavelength. The black belt gag is so good.

Dreamwalking to a universe where Cumberbatch doesn't play Doctor Strange

    Stellar opening credits sequence

  • The Northman

    The Northman

Probably my least favorite of his so far but Eggers is 3 for 3 imfo! Really fantastic production design and thrilling, brutal action. Loved the instances of the fantastical creeping in, especially the fight to gain his sword.

Also really love just the aesthetic and texture of all of Eggers's movies. They're really unlike anything else out there, and it was cool seeing him working with such a bigger budget

  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

I think what makes this feel so terrifying and real is that there truly isn't any big horror setpiece in it like you expect from a modern horror flick. Everything happens very matter of factly, and often very quickly, to the point where it's almost jarring. It really makes you wonder how the hell you could ever think you could escape this experience.

Set design and sound design are both stellar in this. It's all so gross and claustrophobic and hot. You can practically smell that house through the screen.

And man, what a final shot!!

P.S. What the hell is wrong with Grandpa

  • 2046

Really loved the production design and costumes of the scifi sections. Also all the cinematography is so lush, really beautiful work

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Shoutout to when blockbusters were shot on location and used big, dope, real sets
