Lava

Lava ★★★

"I have a dream, I hope will come true, that you'll grow old with me and I'll grow old with you...I lava you."

This Pixar short that was presented before Inside Out was directed by James Ford Murphy and it feels more like a music video clip than an actual short because the story was told entirely through the lyrics of a song. Performed by Kuana Torres Kahele and Napua Greig the lyrics tell the story of a lonely volcano in the middle of the sea that dreamt of finding his other half. As time passed his lava turned into stone and was slowly eroding under the sea, but that hopeful song wasn't unheard, because under the sea was another volcano that was ready to erupt and rise above the sea. Will their dream to be together come true or will it be to late for their encounter? I guess your appreciation for this film depends on your musical taste. I enjoyed the catchy Hawaiian song, but I can understand those who hate it. The animation however is gorgeous and the scenery was breathtaking.
